Hand-held video has been used by police in both public and private spaces to capture video footage of people and environments, with the purpose of using the video as “evidence” or to build a case in the future.

LAPD currently uses hand-held video recorders in different spaces to film the public, including in public meetings of the Board of Police Commissioners and on the street during uprisings or protests.
